Sanyo Xacti VPC-WH1 product reviewAt Tongacharter we use underwater cameras most every day. We have become discerning about the models we use for ease of the guest and quality of photos. With this in mind here is our in the field, real life review of the Sanyo underwater video camera.
ReviewThis small compact underwater video/photo camera looks good in the advertisements. Here is the results of our in field product testing. OverviewThe Sanyo VPC-WH1 feels good in my hand and the compact size is easy to store. It is advertised as only good to 10ft, but that is enough for general snorkeling. I took the camera out for three snorkels in the South Pacific island over four days, then the camera failed completely. GoodThe best aspect of the Sanyo Xacti WPC-WH1 is the price. Sold for less than $300USD it seems to be a great deal. The photos are clear and the zoom very powerful at 30X optical. The wide lens give good light gathering and the photos and video are fair for low light conditions. BadThe side screen flips open when filming. When snorkeling the water flow over the camera tends to close the screen turning off the camera. This happens repeatedly when diving to take a photo. Product overall2 of 5 Overall quality3 of 5 Usability4 of 5 Dependability1 of 5 ServiceRemains to be seen. With luck we'll find another Sanyo underwater video camera to test.
